Over fifteen or so years of writing about the culture war for a wide range of publications, I’ve been frequently asked why I report on “social issues” so consistently.
I would add one thing, Jonathon. There are actually quite a few places where people can get coverage of these kinds of issues (though not much in Canada it is true) where the game is outrage-stoking and getting clicks through sensationalism. Your writing is more measured, less reactionary, and it has a depth that is rooted in your broad reading across history and literature. This is an aspect comes out more in your essays, but it influences how you cover these topics as well. It's not hard to find a narrow-band, parochial media figure who can get people whipped up about the latest craziness to come out of the progressives, but I'd say your work offers something better. Keep up the good work.
